We caught up with the talented singer/song writer to get an inside glimpse of what she’s been up to.

INTERVIEW

1. How did you first get into music and what inspired you to become a singer?

My music journey began when I was about 10. I started taking singing classes in my hometown and occasionally performed at the town festivals – The Christmas Fest, The Easter Fest, The Children’s Day Fest. It was beautiful.

IARINA - SINGER/SONGWRITER

I felt the need to create from an early age. When I was 5 I would spend hours and hours creating scenarios for my dolls to play and also put on shows for them myself. Stories, in particular, have always been my thing. That’s why I love writing my own lyrics.

2. Can you tell us about your latest track or album and the creative process behind it?

My latest track 'Father' is one of my deepest ever. I have never gotten so real about my life in a song before but now I just felt the need to do it. The lyrics wrote themselves and I am happy so many people were touched by this story.

3. What do you think sets your music apart from other artists in the Dance/EDM music genre?

Before writing any song I think of a story. I’ve been told a few times that lyrics don’t matter in Dance Music and I couldn’t disagree more. Yes, production and melodic lines are super important – without them there wouldn’t be a song, right? But lyrics are the heart of it. A song’s message can cheer you up or tear you apart in no time. Luckily, there are many Dance artists who really care about the words they sing and I am one of them.

4.How do you balance your personal life and your career as a musician?

Believe it or not, making music IS how I relax. I write music whenever I can – I am also a Copywriter and I create campaigns for big brands together with a wonderful team. These two – Music and Advertising – are my favorite things in the world and they co-exist naturally in my schedule.

5. Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations you can tell us about?

I am always working on new things but right now the outcome is a secret even to me. :) I am excited to discover what’s next and you’ll be the first to find out for sure.

6. What message do you hope to convey through your music?

I’ve always been a fan of empathy – of feeling understood and doing my best to understand others too. So I want my music to feel like a big hug to people who have been through the same things as me. I want to make people understand they can overcome their worst moments and truly see the power that lies inside them.

7. Who are some of your biggest musical influences and how have they influenced your sound?

My favorite artist is Alan Walker. I am in love with his sound and the way he combines strong, epic instrumentals with angelic voices and deep lyrics. I am also a big fan of Dennis Lloyd. His voice? Amazing. The way he opens his heart through his music is insanely beautiful – it takes both courage and intelligence to be such an introspective person.

Their style definitely influenced the way I make music. It made me want to be more than just a singer with a nice voice and dancy vibes. It made me want to turn my saddest moments into something good and give it to people in the most beautiful form.
